I had a rant post about CSI TV “science” once before. Today I have stumbled upon a great comic about it by Jorge Cham and I am posting it here as another reminded of how quickly do script writers twist reality to make the plot manageable.

Who does not know about Facebook ? The social networking website originally designed to keep in touch with ones ex-colleagues now accelerating blindly on the path of inevitable doom. Not financial doom, but the pit where every single social network website eventually ends up in. I am talking about degeneration to the level where friends list is not an actual list of friends but rather a list of about 50% of the whole community with whom one actually does not communicate let alone occasional “spanking” (if you use Facebook you know what I mean).

Just a quick evening post to clear my head of this CSI series nonsense.

So why does Wayn suck? Well, besides the obvious reasons that become apparent the minute you enter the site every user has probably met the following limitation:

Email addresses. We do not directly make your email address available to anyone on any screen of the WAYN Service. The only legitimate way of making contact with a person found on the WAYN Service is for a Full Member to enter a message which we will send on the Member’s behalf. ...

What begins as protection of privacy comes out as a really dirty kind of monopole. Ways simply doesn't want its users to switch to other means of communication. Now combine this with limitation of only two messages per day and you get hell. It is not illegal and they have every right to do it, I know ... but it is just mean.
Of course there is a question: will I still use Wayn ... sadly probably yes. It is still a way of meeting interesting people from other countries. Will I ever pay for their services? Hell no. I will just rant about it.
