Mindscape, stage 1

After a month and a half of development and testing I present to you the Mindscape reborn!

Like I mentioned in the previous post in July I got tired of Drupal and it's frequent upgrades, bloated backend and a million of carefully configured plugins to make the site look just right. I got tired of PHP as well. At that time I have been looking into Python and Django for web development ... mainly because we used it for the wlan ljubljana project that I am involved in. When I started playing with Django two months ago I was amazed by how fast and smoothly everything came together and how nice the development process is. One could say that I am where I have been with my old Hype CMS, written using CakePHP ... and yes, I am close to that, but to be honest, I liked my old CMS ... I just did not have time to maintain it. I hope that I have not found a good compromise between customization and external support.

Also I have decided to experiment a bit. I do not want this site to look like some kind of egocentric cyber-monument. Besides being my portfolio Mindscape is my playground, my sandbox where I can experiment with new emerging web standards and technologies. I will therefore try to gradually use more and more cutting edge stuff, not really worrying about supporting every browser out there ... I am looking at you, IE. I have started with an effort to make my site HTML5 valid and using some advanced CSS3 features. But because there is so much to be done, I have decided to split work into several stages. I have no idea where my life will take me so I wanted to put the baseline out as soon as possible ... from here on we will have to wait and see. I have some exciting plans though ...
